We’re celebrating America Recycles Day + Texas Recycles Day!

First, we have a recycling pickup event at a park in the Cottonwood Creek across from the San Marcos High School Stadium.

The IREP truck will be there with a staff member who is a Neighborhood Resource Leader for the city, and he will accept items for proper disposal, as well as pass out useful information, some of which comes from Keep San Marcos Beautiful.

KSMB will provide us with some trash grabbers to encourage people to spend 15 minutes or so picking up litter in the neighborhood.

Acceptable items:

Plastic Bags, Wraps, and Bottles

Empty Ink Cartridges

Household Chemicals

Small Electronics

Paint

Batteries

Light Bulbs

Styrofoam

Next is the Thrift Shop Olympics, a fast, funny, “minute-to-win-it” showdown that champions reuse, upcycling, and recycling. The shop is always available for hard-to-recycle drop off during open hours.

Form a team of 2–4 (all ages welcome), compete for gold, and learn simple ways to keep valuable stuff in play.

This year is extra epic: we’re toasting our second statewide award in 2025—the Cis Myers Sustainability Award from STAR’s Texas Environmental Leadership Awards—plus our Beautify Texas Business/Industry Award from Keep Texas Beautiful. 🎉♻️
